You can never tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit. It’s when things go wrong that you must not quit.
It was finally time for launch, his team has worked for long 7 years for this moment. The whole team waited anxiously as SLV-3, India’s first satellite vehicle, was prepared for the launch. The countdown begins in reverse order and satellite has takeoff. The first stage performed to perfection, their hopes are soaring in the form of SLV-3, Suddenly the spell was broken, the second stage went out of control and the flight was terminated after 317 seconds. The rocket crashed into the sea and all their hopes are drowned with it. One moment there was a magic and the next a feeling of utter hopelessness.
This event came as a big shock to most of us in his team. Exactly one year later, the whole nation was watching them again. It was time for the launch that was going to change the future of the Indian Space Programme. SLV-3 was lifted off. Satellite Rohini was successfully put into orbit.
There were many failures faced by our scientists and former president Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam who was desperate to pursue a career in flying.
The man Walt Disney who nourished every childhood with his cartoons and creations has seen failure in life. Fired by his editor, the man who brought Mickey Mouse into our lives was told that he “lacked imagination”.Hard to believe, isn’t it? Yes. That happened!
J.K. Rowling, the famous Harry Potter series author, was rejected by 12 different publishers before someone agreed to publish her first book. We all know where she stands today.
Do you know how many attempts it took to invent the light bulb? 10,000. Yes, Thomas Edison found out more than 9000 ways in which a light bulb wouldn’t work. Ever thought about failure that way?
Recently I have heard in the news that a class 10th student from Chembur, Mumbai has committed suicide after poor performance in his internal school tests. Many of us not knowing that in India every 1hr one student commit suicide. Such news is always heartbreaking and horribly, horribly wrong. But when a child dies by suicide, it brings a whole different level of grief, pain, to those who cared about the child.
We want our kids to have a vision , they should be successful in life but your future and their future is determined by today and I am not saying stop trying to improve yourself and your kids. No. I am all about personal development, testing your limits and achieving more. But we need to tell our kids if it doesn’t work accept it and move on to the next thing. It’s okay if they fail.
Learning how to handle failure is just as important as learning how to succeed in life. How do we avoid messing up? By spending as much time as possible with our kids and making them a priority. By loving them and using encouraging words if they fail. By not comparing with other kids. Make a point of introducing your child to new things while making it clear that she shouldn’t feel the need to smash any world records.
Your child watches you like a hawk, so it’s important to handle your own disappointments with grace and be a role model to them. Be your child’s guide and not his saviour.
So, if you want your kids to be successful in their life please read them the stories of people who are failed in their life. They will understand failure is just a step to success and you cannot skip it.
February is a month of love, emphasising the importance of love in our lives but love and grief are intimately related. You can’t have one without the other. Even if you fail, just remember “Ek train gayi, toh dusri ayegi…Babu’’.
